Mt Vernon Return
14 Sept 2025: 35km. Sunny, 31 deg
Watched littlies beginning to learn soccer.
Sitting on the ball, dribbling fast and powerful like a lion, or turtle slow to the cones, balancing the ball on the upside-down cone, kicking the goal, taking turns, and cheering others. All good fun in the sun, tho not a hat in sight.
Decided to ride on to Jones Point Park. We didn't feel like going far.
Well that was a myth.
Not that 34km return is far, but we're not bike fit, it was hot, and sunny.
The path to Mt Vernon, George Washington’s home about 30km from the White House, reminded me of parts of the Canberra cycleway around Lake Burley Griffin.
It's bitumen, with a centre line, but with beautiful wide timber bridges, all signed “Bridge freezes before trail” with the image of a slipping bike.
