Curry Estate - Brewster
3 Oct 2025
Sunny.
40km
After breakfast chatted with Dawn and Kathleen - two of the six Curry sisters who run the Estate - about running a yoga retreats - Kathleen was keen for a bike retreat! But I think probably too expensive.
Yet another glorious day. Back in the trai,l flat, with long straights.
Plenty of time for cycling meditation, but not quite the forest bathing of yesterday.
The coolness of the shade, warmth of the sun, the smell of dry leaves, again the continuous pedalling, muscles asking for a change, a light tailwind to start, a light headwind later.
Past a Police Canine Training Center (why not dog?) and then the blank walls of a jail..
Later we stopped for some lunch on the trail and met a couple who said the walls were 40 feet high and 40 feet deep below ground level. And always quiet. Maximum security. Called Greenhaven. Plenty of irony, or maybe sarcasm in that title. “Australia? - Crocodile Dundee”.
He was “pro gun, just like you take insurance on your house”. Also that NY laws require guns to be concealed, in Texas they have be exposed.
Described a 97 year old lady going shopping with a big 44 on her hip. “No-one's gonna mess with her”, chuckled. “Nice meetin ya” and so on they went.
We rode on till suddenly the trail stopped - chain wire fence right across, signs pointing to steep steps. At least down, not up!
Then onto busy roads with fast noisy traffic thankfully only a few kms but such a contrast to the quiet Trailway. .
Tomorrow to Ardsley, a much longer hillier ride. Near Dobbs Ferry with many early memories for me.
Ive included a photo of a red and black caterpillar. The same sort I had on my finger when I very little here.
The adults were a bit concerned but it didn't hurt, I'd just put my finger in front of it and it crawled on. I thought it was beautiful.
