Ride to Union Station to refamiliarise with the logistics of leaving on Tuesday. As the Customer Service guy suggested arriving about 45 mins early with the bikes to get their tickets, we will leave here at 6:30am no later.

Then to the Coffee Bar as recommended but I couldn't get the wahoo/komoot to sync so navigated by phone with pfb’s phone holder. Another very different experience.

Decided to remember the route to get back but the White House was even more than usual cordoned off so we had to detour around.

The White House is a pretty house, but it's certainly no longer the people's house, now heavily fenced, and any approach roads blocked off with steel barriers and guards.

The detour worked out to take us back over the 14th St bridge, past the Jefferson memorial and Monument, back into Virginia.

All on bike lanes or trails, the ride really is very special.

But the noise of the city is a relentless barrage. Sirens, trucks, cars, planes. Even in the coffee shop a girl was talking nonstop and loudly with one of those piercing accents.
